Darius McCrary, best known for playing Eddie Winslow on the ABC family sitcom 'Family Matters' during the 1990s and last seen on the big screen in 'Next Day Air,' has landed a coveted role on a daytime soap.
According to Entertainment Weekly, the former child star is set to take on the role of Malcolm Winters on CBS' long running series 'The Young and the Restless.'
The role was originated by model-turned-actor Shemar Moore, who won a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series in 2000. He is currently playing FBI Special Agent Derek Morgan on the popular CBS drama, 'Criminal Minds.'
McCrary, who reportedly has signed a multi-year deal, is set to begin his first day of work on Nov. 18. His debut will air on Dec. 29.
When it was first reported that the top-rated daytime soap was looking to bring back the popular character, former soap veterans were rumored to be auditioning for the spot. Soapcentral.com states that 'Playgirl' magazine cover boy Marcus Patrick (who played Jamal Cudahy on 'All My Children;' and Jett Carver, 'Days of our Lives') and former Passions' hunk Charles Divins had read for the role.

"We are thrilled to have the character of Malcolm back on Y&R. Malcolm, Neil Winters' brother, has always been a catalyst to exciting stories," said 'Y&R' co-executive producer/head writer Maria Bell said in a statement. "He's coming back to town to see his brother and to reunite with his biological daughter, Lily Winters, as she fights for her life. Malcolm is a photographer ... someone who lives on the edge and who always pushes the envelope."
Fans of McCrary -- who is allegedly married to former video vixen and best selling author Karrine Steffans -- will be happy to see him work with the Emmy Award-winning Bryton James (Devon), who co-starred as Richie Crawford on 'Family Matters.'
