Most Anticipated URBAN Albums Of 2010

da BLITZ in the INDUSTRY

nerd

While we’re in the midst of looking back at 2009, we decided to pause for a moment to look towards the future and all of the music scheduled for release in 2010.

Here are The Urban Daily’s most anticipated records of 2010!

10. Missy Elliot Block Party
Aside two songs on the soundtrack to the film Step Up 2 The Streets, Missy has been pretty quiet since the release of her last album, 2005’s The Cookbook. With production duties rumored to be handled by long-time collaborator Timbaland, as well as The Neptunes and Danja, the music world is eagerly anticipating the return of one of it’s most creative and fun figures.

9. N*E*R*D Instant Gratification
Pharrell, Chad, Shay, and new member Rhea will return for the fourth N*E*R*D album in 2010. Will the addition of a new female member set the group on a path similar to that of The Black Eyed Peas?

8. Erykah Badu New Amerykah Part II: Return Of The Ankh
We’ve already heard it, but we can’t wait to hear it again. Read our thoughts on the album here.

7. Ludacris Battle Of The Sexes
Battle Of The Sexes was originally intended as an album featuring just Ludacris and Shawnna, but other female artists are being brought on board to duke it out with Luda. This is one battle we are looking forward to hearing in 2010!

6. The Roots How I Got Over
The best band in late night television will be releasing their ninth studio album early in 2010. Will The Roots’ be able to use their nightly showcase on national television to their advantage and fully emerge from that gray area between underground and mainstream hip-hop?

5. Amy Winehouse TBD
Representatives from her label in the UK have confirmed that the “Rehab” singer will release a new album in 2010. She’s been on the island of St. Lucia recording with Salaam Remi who previously worked with Winehouse on her Frank and Back To Black albums.

4. Drake Thank Me Later
Everybody’s favorite Canadian former teen soap star will finally release his debut album, Thank Me Later, in 2010 after what seems like an eternity of hype and mixtapes. Can Drake deliver on the promise of his past work?

3. Usher Raymond Vs Raymond
Originally scheduled for release in 2009, Usher’s latest album is set for a March 2010 release. Our fingers are crossed that Usher’s new record continues in the vein of his Confessions album and steers clear of anything resembling his last album, Here I Stand.

2. Eminem Relapse 2
Eminem’s triumphant return to music resulted in the hit Relapse album. The sequel is slated for a 2010 release and we’re hearing rumors that Slim Shady is working with Just Blaze. This has potential to be a monster!

1. Sade Soldier Of Love
Nearly 10 years after her last album, Sade is gearing up for the release of her sixth studio album in 26 years, Soldier Of Love. The title track leaked on to the internet in early December and the response has been overwhelmingly positive.

>>>Yes SADE will SLAY... but the BONUS album have to be MONICA'S upcoming project.

Cincinnati Bengals Chris Henry, dead at 26,

da BLITZ in the INDUSTRY

Redemption stories are the best kind. If someone's failed, lost their way or made more mistakes than we deem acceptable, I always find myself on that guy's side.

I'm not supporting what they've done or making excuses for them, but hoping that they'll find a way to be better. Hoping that they'll learn from their mistakes and become the person they can be. In one way or another, I think we're all striving for that.

That's what Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Chris Henry was supposedly doing when he lost his life this morning near Charlotte after falling out of the back of a moving pickup truck during a dispute with his fiancee.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police are still piecing together what happened in the accident, and while it is deeply saddening, the news that Henry's life met a violent and premature end is not a total surprise.

He had a series of run-ins in college at West Virginia and was considered a major character risk by the NFL. He had been arrested multiple times while with the Bengals and suspended five times -- including for half of the 2007 season. The Bengals tired of Henry's antics and released him after that suspension, but gave him another chance in 2008.

Despite his checkered past, he and his teammates believed his future was bright. In the preseason, quarterback Carson Palmer(notes) raved about Henry's work ethic and his ability. According to Palmer, Henry had a great offseason and had "really turned his life around." Unfortunately, his season was cut short by injury when he broke his forearm against the Baltimore Ravens on November 8.

He was 26 when he lost his life this morning. Just 26 years old. For as many headlines as he had made, it seemed like he should be older. The fact was, though, that he was still a very young man. He was just entering his football prime, and considering his natural gifts and the signs he had been showing before being put on injured reserve this year, he could have gone on to have a great career.

That's the tragedy here. If things had continued to go the way he and his teammates said they were headed, Chris Henry could have one day stood in front of the world as an example that no matter what you've done in the past, your future can be better. He could have told the at-risk youth of the world, "Yes, it can be difficult to change the direction of your life, but it can be done, and you have the power to do it. I did it, and you can do it."

What a great thing that could've been. Sooner or later, we're all going to let somebody down. But life is about how you learn from your mistakes and how you use the experience to make yourself a better, stronger person.

Chris Henry believed he was becoming that guy. And we could have used that.

RECAP:

chris henry and loleini tonga

Cincinnati Bengals receiver Chris Henry has died.

As previously reported this morning, he was involved in some sort of domestic dispute with his fiance (very recently engaged) Loleini late last night where he fell off the back of a truck. And he was fighting for his life throughout the night. Chris reportedly died around 6:30am EST this morning. He leaves behind 3 children with his fiance. So senseless and sad.

New Video: Rihanna x Young Jeezy “Hard”

da BLITZ in the INDUSTRY

SHE IS BADDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD! BUT?

She looks good as hell and I love the song but I’m really not feeling this video. Upon seeing the sneak peek and photos it seemed as if the video was going to be pretty hot..maybe I just expected too much? She also needs to get some sort of choreography going because she is slowly becoming a Mariahlike artist…doing nothing on stage. Another thing I’m iffy about is the fact that they’re glamorizing War in this video…

A Look Inside Tiger Woods' Billion-Dollar Brand

da BLITZ in the INDUSTRY

Tiger Woods and his money matters are on the minds of many. In particular, the possibility of Woods losing his endorsements because of Tiger's scandalous affairs with a list of women that is ever-growing is very real. While Woods has certainly cleaned up in tournaments, Tiger's financial cash cows are his endorsement deals and personal appearance fees. Losing his branded line of Gatorade drinks might not hurt Woods. Yet, without Tiger's golden boy image, the growth of Woods' fortune might be in jeopardy.

When you learn how much Tiger has, you'll understand how much he has to lose in future income. How much has Woods earned so far? Would you believe Tiger Woods has earned $1 billion over the course of his career? And Woods was the first athlete to do so. But Tiger's money bonanza might go bust as allegations of his affairs and drug use become more and more sordid.

Forbes.com has created an amazing overview of Tiger Woods' financial holdings that gives you a clear picture of what Woods has earned, and the types of income he may no longer be able to earn with a tarnished reputation. Forbes.com states:

Tiger Woods turned pro in 1996 amid outsized expectations for his career path. He somehow managed to exceed those expectations on and off the course. Now the stakes are high for Tiger Woods, his family, his corporate partners and the PGA Tour as his scandal unfolds. His reputation, playing career and billions of dollars are on the line.

Tiger Woods and his financial empire are fully detailed in this great Tiger Woods gallery by Forbes.com.

Did you know Tiger was well on his way to becoming a billionaire (after taxes and fees deducted from his earnings)?

Lash Out With False Eyelashes

da BLITZ in the INDUSTRY

You can have the best blush, the hottest gloss and shimmery shadow, but if your eyelashes can only be seen with a microscope, the whole look sort of falls flat. No one knows this better than celebrities, most of whom won't be seen taking out the garbage, let alone on the red carpet, without a fresh pair of false eyelashes. Check out some celebrity lash lovers and find out how to copy the look!

Mary J. Blige: She might go for no more drama in her life, but she certainly dramatic lashes. Check out the falsies MJB was sporting at the AMAs.
Oprah Winfrey: Her makeup artist has never had a light hand, and one thing Ms. Winfrey never skimps on his her false eyelashes.

Charlie Murphy's Wife Dies of Cancer

da BLITZ in the INDUSTRY

Charlie Murphy Wife

It's being reported in the media that the wife of comedian Charlie Murphy has died. Tisha Taylor Murphy is reported to have lost a long battle with cancer. The couple had three children together; Xavier, their son, is pictured above.

The following statement was released by Charlie Murphy's publicist:

"Tisha Taylor Murphy, wife of comedian and actor Charlie Murphy, passed away peacefully on Sunday, with family at her side after facing the challenges of cancer for the past two years. The Murphy Family appreciates all the support they have received from friends and fans and requests privacy during this very difficult time."

Charlie Murphy is the brother of fellow comedian Eddie Murphy and is best known for his roles on "The Chapelle Show" and the movie "CB-4." I've loved Charlie Murphy for years, as much as his brother, and I share my sadness for him and his family.

Reports are that Murphy's wife passed away from breast cancer. Breast cancer is a serious health risk for many women, especially African Americans. According to the American Cancer Society, a woman has a 1 in 8 chance of developing breast cancer and a 1 in 35 chance of dying from it. For American women, instances of breast cancer are higher than any other form of cancer, other than lung cancer. For black women, it is the most prevalent form of cancer (Sistersnetworkinc.org).

Jim Jones Talks New Mixtape & More

da BLITZ in the INDUSTRY

Tuesday night, Joe La Puma had a pow wow with Jim Jones inside his recording studio. Jimmy spoke on his upcoming mixtape, Max B, Jay-Z, and his placement on Complex’s Best Song list.

On His Mixtape:

Complex: So The Ghost of Rich Porter mixtape—how long have you been working on it?
Jim Jones:
Well it started as a mixtape for the street. I’ve been working on it probably for like two months now. I got over 40 songs, and we had to sit and break them shits down. It started becoming harder and harder, and there was an album there and people started offering me money for it. It went from something I was going to give away for free to something somebody was going to pay me to give away for free. So, in the end, I’m still going to give it away free.

On Max B:

Complex: How do you feel when Max gets sentenced to 75 years?
Jim Jones: I have no feelings. I’m a numb to that. You dig?

On Jay-Z:

Complex: Are you referring to the video that surfaced of you boppin’ in the club to Jay’s verse on “Swagga Like Us?”
Jim Jones:
I like “Swagga Like Us.” Shit, what are you going to be in the middle of the club dancing, like you got your lady with you and he come on and you’re supposed to just stop? She’ll look at you like, “You queer-ass nigga!” So shit, what the fuck is wrong with you niggas, I’m boogeying, man. And I might turn that shit up to 40 in the car if I’m moving fast. My personal issues has nothing to do with my artistic likes. If he has a hot record, he has a hot record. That shit with Alicia is dope, dope as hell. I’m not giving him props, I just like the music. I don’t give a fuck about him, fuck that nigga and the camel he rode in on. If he has a dope ass record though, what the fuck you going to do? It’s fucked up though because they don’t play “Ballin’” in the 40/40 club, that’s the hating shit I be talking about. I’ve got confirmation from DJs who have been kicked out for playing that record.

On “Ballin”:

Complex: Ok, off the top, what songs do you think were bigger than “Ballin’”? Was “In Da Club”?
Jim Jones: Yeah. That was bigger than “Ballin’.” I mean you know what, let’s not get to it. And let’s keep it funky, funkadelic. I did “Ballin’” on Koch. This nigga did “Ballin’” on Interscope and his family tree is NWA. Need I say more? He caught that one, I remember when Flex first played it. I’m going to have to come down to the office and debate this with your committee on video, let’s set that up.

Former KKK Leader Ordained In Black Denomination

    da BLITZ in the INDUSTRY

    johnny lee claryFrom Charismamag.com

A former imperial wizard of the Ku Klux Klan is now an ordained minister in one of the nation’s largest African-American denominations.

Johnny Lee Clary was ordained a minister in the 6 million-member Church of God in Christ (COGIC) on Saturday during a service led by Bishop George McKinney, pastor of St. Stephen’s Cathedral Church of God in Christ in San Diego and a member of COGIC’s 12-member general board.

Clary, who is based in Oklahoma, will serve as an evangelist under McKinney’s oversight, and his ministry will emphasize racial reconciliation.

“Bishop McKinney and I both felt like racial reconciliation was needed now more than ever,” said Clary, who befriended McKinney in the early 1990s when the two spoke during a Promise Keepers event. “We feel like it makes a huge statement that the former national imperial wizard of the Ku Klux Klan would join the Church of God in Christ and reach out with the Church of God in Christ to bring racial reconciliation to America.”

“We want to take this back to where it was when William Seymour and the Azusa Street Revival was happening, when blacks and whites were together,” added Clary, who preached at St. Stephen’s on Sunday. “This is what’s needed for this nation now to overcome racism.”

After joining the Ku Klux Klan during his teens, Clary eventually became leader of the White Knights of the Ku Klux Klan. But he grew increasingly dissatisfied and eventually resigned from his post. With two failed marriages, no friends and little money, Clary says he turned to the God he’d been introduced to as a child and accepted Christ in 1990.

Since then he has shared his story on talk shows including The Phil Donahue Show, Geraldo, The 700 Club and Sally Jesse Raphael, and he preaches in churches in the U.S. and Australia.

“I know the answer to racial reconciliation, and that’s Jesus Christ,” he said. “They all come to me, even secular people are saying, ‘What changed you?’ I tell them, ‘The only thing that changed me was the Word of God.’ Because when I accepted Christ … I had to get my mind renewed, and that was through God’s Word.”
