Michelle Obama is Livid with PETA Over New Ad

da BLITZ in the INDUSTRY

PETA
Michelle Obama is angry with The People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) after the organization ran an anti-fur ad featuring the first lady without her permission. The ad presents Mrs. Obama alongside Oprah Winfrey Tyra Banks and Carrie Underwood with the slogan, "Fur-free and fabulous!" PETA claims that the ad offers "a bevy of the smartest, most stylish, and most influential women in America," and is being put up all over DC and throughout the Internet.

Winfrey, Banks and Underwood are all on record as publicly stating that the endorse PETA's anti-fur efforts, while the first lady cannot endorse special interest groups such as PETA.

"We did not consent to this," a spokeswoman for Michelle Obama said yesterday.

PETA refuses to take the ads down and claim that Mrs. Obama's past anti-fur statements give them a license to use her in their campaign.

>>>>I've always had mild respect for the aggression of PETA when it comes to protecting the rights of animals, but I am not a fan of their bullying tactics. As evidenced during the Michael Vick trial, PETA has gotten to the point that they seem to have almost no respect for the law, nor the rights of others. While I do not support the idea of killing animals in order to wear them, I am not comfortable with an organization that tramples on the concept of self-respect and respect for other people.

Black Men in Prison: What Obama Must Fix Right Now

da BLITZ in the INDUSTRY

Black male incarceration

The prison industrial complex affects all of us. Most of us in the African American community have a relative or friend who has been hit hard by this system. Many of us have even been affected ourselves. What's most interesting about the prison system is that people have convinced us that racial disparities in sentencing, arrests and incarcerations are primarily the result of African Americans choosing to embrace their own demise. This could not be farther from the truth.

Rev. Al Sharpton, who is also the host of 'Keeping it Real With Rev. Al Sharpton,' a nationally syndicated radio show, has helped take the lead in liberating the black community from the shackles of mass incarceration. His approach of mentioning the health care debate and recent recession as possible driving factors behind our nation taking the necessary steps to improve our prisons and racial disparities is noteworthy.

In a recent article on the topic, Rev. Sharpton had this to say
:

"Why is it that more than half of all black men in America don't finish high school? Why is the unemployment rate in powerful cities like New York at 50 percent for Black men? Why did Congress abolish Pell grants for prisoners in 1994 that virtually eliminated all 350-incarceration college programs across the country?

"Is it any coincidence then that six out of 10 Black men who drop out of high school have spent time in jail by their mid-30s? With unemployment rates on the rise (and many would argue well in to the double digits among people of color), arrests for nonviolent infractions and petty crimes are leaving families motherless, fatherless and hopeless."

Rev. Sharpton is asking all of the right questions with his commentary, questions that we should all be asking. The truth is that when you look deeper at the prison system in America, you see a two-tiered society, where black men are on the bottom rung when it comes to education, economic opportunities and incarceration. This is not only a set of outcomes that are designed for our demise, they are outcomes that must be laid at the feet of President Barack Obama and Attorney Gen. Eric Holder. Holder and Obama's choice to give speeches to black men, telling them to stop misbehaving is no different from telling rape victims how to dress more appropriately. Our time might be better spent asking political figures why they do things that don't make any sense, such as spending $49,000 per year per inmate (as the state of California does) when they could provide effective education for inner-city children at a much lower cost. We might also ask why inmates have their rights to vote, get jobs or attend college revoked after they are released when we know that marginalizing the ex-convict only increases the likelihood of recidivism. Finally, we might ask why inmates are crowded in to prisons and allowed to rape one another, leading to the spread of disease that ultimately harms the general public.

If you want to know if I believe that all of these outcomes are coincidental, the answer is that I do not. While the sabotage of the black community by the prison system may not be entirely deliberate, the truth is that the politicians who allegedly represent us have made it clear that they simply do not care. Perhaps it's time to make them care, and we can start with our attorney general and president.

Video: Chris Henry’s Fiancee: “He Jumped”

da BLITZ in the INDUSTRY

Chris Henry’s fiancee is finally speaking out about the events leading up to his death. Original reports stated that Chris fell from the back of a truck she was driving after a domestic dispute however, she tells ESPN that he jumped:

“I wasn’t going fast. Maybe he was scared because he saw someone calling the police”. Tonga told Barr that Henry jumped, rather than fell, from the back of the pickup.

“He jumped,” she said. “He jumped. He jumped from the back of the car.” Tonga didn’t give a specific speed, but she said she wasn’t driving fast in the 35-mph zone. “I know I wasn’t going fast at all because I was trying to drive slow because I knew he was in the back standing up,” she said. She also told Barr that she didn’t stop because there was nowhere to stop on the road.

A neighbor, Lee Hardy, said on the day Henry died that he heard Henry say that if Tonga kept driving, he’d jump from the truck and kill himself. Tonga doesn’t think that was the case.

“I have no idea what was going through his mind,” she said. “But as far as him wanting to end his life, no, he had too much going on. I know he wouldn’t want to be gone away from his kids. He loves his kids. And everything was going really good. It’s just that one day …”

Washington Wizards guard Gilbert Arenas isn’t exactly having the best year ever. Nevermind the rumors that Shaq may be smashing his fiancee, he can now add a potential loss of over $96 milly to the tab. He came under fire on Tuesday for pointing his fingers at his teammates as if they were guns during pre-game (bad decision since he was already under investigation for storing a gun in his locker)…and as if things couldn’t get any worse, the league has decided to suspend him indefinitely without pay.

NBA Commissioner David Stern described him as “not currently fit to take the court in an NBA game” adding that his conduct in the last few days could “ultimately result in a substantial suspension, and perhaps worse”. #diiizzaaam

Beyoncé Hired by Terrorist Supporting Gaddafi Family?

da BLITZ in the INDUSTRY
Beyoncé has certainly been engaging in some interesting financial maneuvers, to add to her repertoire of sexy, body suit bouncing. Word on the street is that Beyoncé has been in business with a family known to support terrorists. That's right. It is being widely reported that the self-described bootylicious star was hired by Hannibal Gaddafi, a family member of Libyan dictator Moammar Gaddafi, to perform at a star-studded bash this past New Year's Eve. The Huffington Post reports:

Beyonce performed in St. Barts at one of the most star-studded New Years Eve bashes this year for the likes of Lindsay Lohan, Russell Simmons, her husband Jay-Z, Usher and Jon Bon Jovi--and the family of terror-happy Libyan dictator Moammar Gaddafi footed the bill.

Mediaite.com first reported on Sunday that the Gaddafi family threw the party, and Tuesday Page Six confirmed that the host was Moammar's youngest son, the aptly-named Hannibal, who has been involved in a number of violent incidents in recent years.

Just Christmas Day Hannibal, 33, reportedly beat his wife, Libyan model Aline Skaf, 29, until her face was bleeding heavily and her nose was clearly broken. Three of his security guards were arrested and Hannibal got off on diplomatic immunity. In 2005 he was arrested, but not charged, for punching Skaf and wielding a handgun in a Paris hotel.

In 2008 Hannibal and his then-pregnant wife were detained in Switzerland for beating their servants in a luxury hotel. His dad retaliated for his son's mistreatment by arresting Swiss nationals and closing Swiss businesses, sparking a diplomatic crisis, and charges were dropped. In 2004 Hannibal made a name for himself when he led a high-speed police chase, driving drunk and on the wrong side of the road through central Paris. Again he was protected by diplomatic immunity. He has also been involved in several police scuffles.

>>>>>I am sure that Beyoncé was paid good money for this New Year's Eve performance, and it must have been wonderful to be surrounded by fellow celebrity friends and her husband. But it seems a little mindless to keep your mind only on your money and not on the larger implications of who you are doing business with. You would think the world-wide contempt for persons linked to terrorism, no matter how distant the connection, would have made Mrs. Jigga think twice before taking the cash of a person with such a history. But a close relative of a long-standing enemy of the United States? That was a bad moral and a bad business move.

As the Tiger Woods scandal has shown, bad moral moves and business moves are very often closely related. I am sure that Beyoncé and her handlers did not mean any harm, and were just not thinking too hard when they made this business deal. They were probably blinded by a check with a whole lot of zeroes. But as this story spreads across the Web, the fire of public outrage may actually cost more than this paycheck was worth.

And, BEY was paid 2mill while all the other guest celebs, was paid 1 mill each. They had no idea. lol

Funk Legend George Clinton is Broke: Can't Pay for Mother's Funeral?

da BLITZ in the INDUSTRY

Funk legend George Clinton has learned this lesson the hard way, as he is now working at the age of 68 to regain some of the intellectual property rights he lost over the years in a series of very lopsided contracts.

"At a time when he should be able to live off his life's work, Clinton is struggling to provide for his family and give his mother a proper burial," read a statement from ESM, a company that now represents Clinton. Clinton's mother, Julious G. Keaton, died this month in North Carolina. It is alleged that Clinton could not afford to pay for his own mother's funeral.

According to the company, George Clinton "has received little monetary gain over the past three decades from his musical works, such as "Flashlight" and "One Nation Under a Groove." Even Clinton's song "Atomic Dog," one of the most sampled songs in history, does not belong to him.

In spite of all the brilliance Clinton showed as an entertainer, his lack of foresight and understanding of his business led him into bankruptcy in 1984. He is now fighting back against former business managers, Armen Boladian (Bridgeport Music, Inc.) and Nene Montes (Tercer Mundo), who were instructed to act as Clinton's trustees after his bankruptcy.

"There were several documents that appear to have George's signature on them which turns most of his publishing and masters over to Boladian and Montes, which caused Clinton to lose all rights and financial gain to all of his songs," ESM said in the statement. "Clinton asserts that he would not be so careless as to sign over complete rights to his music for a lifetime. This brings to the forefront the ethical relationship between artist and the third parties whom they entrust to take care of their business."
