“I used to be a national swimmer when I was 14,” she said explaining her toned, lean physique.

Even though she does not work out, Keri said eating healthy is an important part of felling good.

So what will Keri be wearing on the Grammy red carpet?
“I really don’t know yet,” she says. “I guess my aim would be to stand out. I want it to be kind of the humble approach of being at the Grammys for the first time, first album. So I want that, something great but not something like ‘I’m here. I’ve arrived.’

Rihanna’s Young Fan Jasmina Amena Dies

Rihanna’s 7 year old fan Jasmina Amena, who Rih has been helping to find a bone marrow transplant for, died from her leukemia last night. Rihanna (as well as Kelly Rowland) has spent a lot of time with Jasmina over the past year, all to help her #1 fan through this rough time. Here’s the message that was posted on Jasmina’s Twitter account just a few hours ago:

At 10:55 on January 27th, after a long battle, Jasmina lost her fight with leukemia. Thanks for all of your support.

Back in November, Jasmina went to surprise Rihanna on her album release day at an in-store signing. She was diagnosed with leukemia in January of 2009. Such sad news. R.I.P. Jasmina.

President Barack Obama put out the following statement about Jasmina today as he recently met with her at the White House:

“It is with great sadness today that Michelle and I extend our condolences on the passing of Jasmina Anema. Jasmina showed tremendous bravery in the face of adversity, and her ability to stay positive throughout her battle was an inspiration to me and to all those she touched. As the parents of two young girls, our hearts particularly go out to Jasmina’s devoted mother Thea. Our thoughts and prayers are with her and with all who knew and loved Jasmina.”

An up and coming rapper named Motoe Blizzid is suing Atlanta rapper T.I. for copyright infringement for the song “What You Know.”
According to AllHipHop.com Motoe Blizzid, who’s real name is Nathan Filby, claims that “What You Know” samples part of his song “Reverence.” Blizzid also revealed that he shopped his song to several people in the music industry before it was allegedly received by a representative for a company that works with T.I.

T.I., nor a representative for the rapper, have acknowledged Motoe Blizzid’s claims.

8Ball & MJG To Release New Album In April

Legendary southern Hip Hop duo 8Ball and MJG have recently announced that they will be releasing their latest album, Ten Toes Down, spring of this year.

“Ten Toes Down, in my opinion, is one of the best 8Ball & MJG albums ever,” said 8Ball. “It's a heart-felt, soul-filled, portion of the lives of 8Ball & MJG. 8Ball & MJG sounds and feels like 8Ball & MJG on this album [for] sho!"

The duo’s much anticipated twelfth album will feature a number of guest appearances from artists such as T.I., Snoop Dogg, David Banner, and Bun B.

“T.I. and I were thrilled to have the opportunity to work with Ball & Gee from the very beginning. We've both been fans, and this new album is classic Ball & Gee material & we're excited for the world to hear it,” Grand Hustle’s Jason Geter explained.

8Ball and MJG first emerged on the scene in the early 90’s with their album Comin’ Hard and over ten albums later they still remain icons in southern Hip Hop.

Ten Toes Down will be released on April 6, 2010 through Push Management/Grand Hustle/E1 Music.

Haitian Earthquake Kills Two Leaders of Women's Movement

The Haitian earthquake has killed thousands, and we have spent the week mourning loss with the victims of this terrible tragedy. The quake also took the lives of three women who've worked tirelessly and effectively to change the lives of women around the world, especially in their home country of Haiti. Myriam Merlet, Magalie Marcelin and Anne Marie Coriolan were all killed during the quake, instantly silencing three of the most impactful leaders of the women's rights movement in the nation.

Myriam Merlet, age 53, died after being crushed under her collapsed Port-au-Prince home. Merlet was the chief of staff of Haiti's "Ministry for Gender and the Rights of Women." Anne Marie Coriolan, 53, served alongside Merlet as a top adviser. She was killed when her boyfriend's house collapsed.

Magalie Marcelin established a women's rights organization that deals with domestic abuse victims. Her daughter helped remove her body from the rubble after the earthquake.

Activists around the world chimed in after the deaths of Merlet, Marcelin and Coriolon, particularly as it pertained to the protection of women during the aftermath of the earthquake. "From where we stand," Taina Bien-Aimé wrote in an e-mail according to CNN, "the most critical and urgent issue is what, if any, contingencies the relief/humanitarian agencies are putting in place not only to ensure that women have easy access to food, water and medical care, but to guarantee their protection."

The protection of women in Haiti is one of the most overlooked concerns during this crisis. Haitian women regularly have their rights violated, and even rape has been used as a political tool in the past. Various women's rights activists who fled the country years ago eventually returned to Haiti to fight for those that were left behind. The value of education and empowerment was evident in their endeavors, as they remembered the old saying, "Great women are rarely well-behaved."

>>So, although the powers that be were likely unhappy to see these women coming, their lives were spent pursuing a worthwhile cause. I encourage all of us who are getting educated to realize that education is not simply a tool to make more money. Education, in conjunction with courage and passion, can help you change the world. May these great women rest in peace.

Haitians Displaced May Number 1 Million

A staggering 1 million Haitians may now be in search of shelter as the flow of tents and other temporary housing trickles in to the devastated island nation.

Housing experts say it could take weeks to locate areas large enough that also have ready access to public facilities to construct tent cities.

With the shock and sadness generated by grim images of bodies being pulled from the earthquake wreckage starting to pass, the tragedy is reaching its second phase: coming to grips with how to provide food, clothes and shelter to survivors in one of the world's poorest nations.

It's hard to envision a scenario for Haiti in the future that doesn't include years of pain and suffering for the Haitian people. Haiti was an international basket case, showcasing mismanaged and corrupt government, destruction of natural resources and crumbling infrastructure. Then the earthquake hit.

More than 1.5 million people are in need of food, according to the United Nations.

Things are so bad near the capital city of Port-au-Prince that more than 100,000 people have fled to the coastal northern city of Gonaives. The city had been originally abandoned because of two huge floods in 2004 that killed thousands.

Hollywood Will Finally Give MLK His Due

For a man hailed worldwide as a human rights icon and honored here with a national holiday on his birthday, the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. has gotten pretty short shrift from Hollywood screenwriters.

Yes, there have been several films and documentaries on King's life but nothing substantial. They are the type of thin dramas we are most likely to see on BET at 3 a.m. just before the infomercials for gospel music or the Montel Williams juicer hit the air.

But that sad oversight might be corrected soon as word that Academy Award-winning screenwriter Ronald Harwood has signed on to the anticipated biopic on the life of King planned by DreamWorks studios.

Harwood won an Oscar for the screenplay of the movie "The Pianist." He also wrote the film "Mandela." Harwood has been nominated for Oscars for two other films, "The Dresser" and "The Diving Bell and the Butterfly."

Steven Spielberg will co-produce the film.

One has to wonder why it has taken so long for a serious movie to be done on King. Other global figures, such as Mandela, Ghandi and Ali, got their stories told in serious big-screen productions.

Perhaps the wrangling among King's surviving children delayed the project. One would have to wonder what director would want to wade in to the legal fighting over King's papers, letters, speeches and other artifacts, which has until recently, splintered the King family.

In October, King's surviving children Martin Luther King III, Bernice King and Dexter King, agreed in court to end the legal squabbling over how their father's legacy is managed.

The DreamWorks film will be the first theatrical motion picture to be authorized by the King estate and will utilize the King's intellectual property.

Now let's see who signs on to play King on the big screen.

RIHANNA's NewMan MATT KEMP An RAPIST!?

The interesting past of Rihanna’s new Dodger boo Matt Kemp just keeps unveiling itself. On the heels of Matt’s ex girlfriend Felisha announcing that Matt is lying about not abusing her, another shocking allegation has come out. Back in high school, Matt was a star basketball player in addition to being a star baseball player. In 2002, he and his basketball teammates were accused of raping a 19 year old woman during their high school All-Star b-ball tournament.

A 19-year-old woman filed a report with Columbus police on Sunday morning alleging Williams, 18, Alexander, 17, and Matthew Kemp, 17 forced her into sexual conduct at the Columbus Hyatt Hotel at about 2 a.m. Sunday morning while two other players watched, according to The Oklahoman.

No charges have been filed and no arrests have been made. However, Columbus police have questioned Williams and Alexander.

Matt and the players involved were suspended from the team during the investigation. The woman decided not to press charges, and the district attorney opted to not pursue the matter due to a lack of evidence.
